What Is Rythmol SR?

Rythmol SR is a medication that is used to help prevent serious heart rhythm disorders such as arrhythmia. The generic name for Rythmol SR is Propafenone, which is in a group of medicated drugs called Class IC anti-arrhythmics. The first time a patient uses Propafenone it must be in the supervision of a hospital for the caution of side effects occurring; during this time in the hospital your heart will be monitored constantly with the use of an ECG (electrocardiograph). Side effects to worry about include slow breathing, pale skin, swelling, shortage of breath, a weak pulse, abnormal weakness, feeling as thought you may pass out, or having a seizure. If any of these side effects occur, you must contact your doctor immediately. Side effects that are less serious include slight dizziness, slight tingly feeling under your skin, nausea, unpleasant or unusual taste in your mouth, constipation, headache, slight ringing in your ears, and unusual dreams. Some side effects that have been reported by different patients are, a metallic taste in patient’s mouth, tired to the point of feeling un-functional, lethargic, and liquids not tasting right, mood changes such as yelling and irritability, diarrhea, non stop atrial flutter, trouble walking up stairs due to shortage of breath and leg cramps, and edema of feet and ankles.
Foods to avoid while consuming Rythmol SR are grapefruits and grapefruit juice because they may increase propafenone blood levels in your system which could give you bad side effects; consult your doctor about the amount of grapefruit you can eat while taking this drug. Rythmol SR comes in three strengths of doses that measure 225mg, 325mg, and 425mg; your doctor and your tolerance and response to the drug will determine your dosage. Whether your dosage is 225mg or 425mg, the usual dose is every 12 hours, however, your doctor may prescribe you with specific directions for your condition.
Rythmol SR is not for everyone and affects every person differently, some may see bad side effects and some may not, that is why you must be under supervision for the first few doses in order to be sure that there are no serious side effects caused to you and to make sure you are not allergic to Propafenone. Other medications that must not be taken with Propafenone are, arsenic trioxide, cisapride, levomethadyl, pentamidine, droperidol, pimozide, ritonavir, ranolazine, sertindole, ziprasidone, and antibiotics like erythromycin, clarithromycin, grepafloxacin, troleandomycin, and sparfloxacin. Your doctor may tell you of other medications that should not be taken with Propafenone. Always follow specific instructions given by your doctor when taking Rythmol SR and consume regular dosages with caution, keeping notes of any slight side effects you may feel and how often they occur as well as whether they subside after a few weeks.
