Question:
John Gohde writes: The Data supporting the Heart Disease claim is TRUE and CORRECT for the years 1900, and before. Cancer, more than Heart Disease, represents the FOREST of my health claims in the Early 1900’s. But, it does if you start looking at the actual 1800’s data. Go back far enough in time, and all the claims are TRUE and CORRECT.

Absolutely amazing. The original question came from material in *your* website? Rather than admitt that you were wrong you put a spin on the data? You are the very best *spin doctor* that I’ve ever had the mispleasure of meeting.

I’m so glad the Democrats don’t do any of that spin-doctoring!

John ‘the Man’ <DeMan[16]@hotmail.com wrote in – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – x-no-archive: yes Snobs be gone! Once upon a time, our fellow September rambled on about "When did we start collecting reliable health stats?." Our champion being bored in sci.med.nutrition retorts, thusly … Does anyone know exactly when the gov’t started collecting health statistics? And what agency did this? The NIH? I’ve been hearing that heart disease essentially did not exist in North America until the 1920’s. How do we know this? Good question! And, the responses so far have been pretty good, too. I checked my webpage on Degenerative Diseases and discovered that I originally did *not* have a specific reference to support the above claim. The situation has been corrected. :-) 1900 age adjusted cause of death: 1. Flu – 210 2. Tuberculosis – 199 3. Heart Disease – 167 4. Stroke – 134 5. Diarrhea – 134 6. Cancer – 81 7. Accidents – 76 8. Diabetes – 13 9. Homicide – 1 10. Other causes – 775 The above citation from MartyB ‘the Story Teller’ is wrong, but close. See the pdf hyperlink below. The difference between MartyB and me, is that I list my sources of information. And, I happen to be CORRECT! :-) National Center for Health Statistics http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/datawh/statab/unpubd/mortabs/hist-tabs.htm National Office of Vital Statistics, 1947 the year 1900 page 67 http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/lead1900_98.pdf For the year 1900, heart disease is ranked #4 and Cancer is ranked #8. Then in the year 1901, heart disease moves to #3 and Cancer remains at #8. In the year 1910, heart disease become number #1 with Cancer remaining at #8 (page 64). Then in the year 1938, cancer becomes number#2 (page 55). My orginial webpage had one statistic that was wrong. That has since been corrected. And, I have also disclosed more detailed information on my webpage too. See: ~ Diseases of Civilization / Degenerative Diseases ~ http://home.naturalhealthperspective.com/civilization.html "In 1900, the top three causes of death in the United States were pneumonia / influenza, tuberculosis, and diarrhea/enteritis.[17] Back then communicable diseases accounted for about 60 percent of all deaths.[17] In 1900, heart disease and cancer were ranked number #4 and #8 respectively.[17] Since the 1940’s, most deaths in the United States have resulted from heart disease, cancer, and other degenerative diseases.[17] And, by the late 1990’s, degenerative diseases accounted for over 60 percent of all deaths.[17] In 1900, these top three causes of death were from communicable diseases, but since the 1940’s, most deaths have come from a completely different category of disease called Diseases of Civilization, Western Diseases, Diseases of Lifestyle, or Degenerative Diseases.[17] Until the present era, death was caused by Sudden Onset due to infections, malignancies, injuries, poisonings, and war. The persons inflicted had no role to play in their occurrence. These Sudden Onset conditions lend themselves to a quick fix curative effort." If you go far enough back in time you will find more mis-diagnoses the further back you go. r — "I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed, or numbered…My life is my own." "I am not a number. I am a free man." No. 6
