Question:
I had my blood examined for my cholesterol and did get the following results: Total cholesterol : 207 (has to be between 150 – 240) Triglyceride : 191 (has to be between 10 – 200) Who knows what this exactly means. My MD says it’s all right.
Response:
Randy, your numbers are a little high, but not enough for drugs IMO. You did not mention your age, and if you are on any meds for Cholesterol or not. I am now 47, and since 1/97 been on the ’statins’ – to lower my levels, and hopefully stop me from stroke and/or heart attack. I used to be: 250 cholesterol avg. (range 240-295) (total CH) 133 triglycerides avg. (range 116 – 175) 36-42 (HDL) good CH. Now: 183 cholesterol avg. (ranges 173-187) (total CH) 63 triglycerides avg. (range 55-65) 52-55 (HDL) good CH. All my research says the total cholesterol should be below 200, and you want the HDL (good cholesterol) in mid 50’s or higher if possible. You also want LOW triglycerides. I have been getting tested every quarter for the last 3 years due to the UPRIMA Trial I’ve been in. Mike Before you buy.
Response:
Also, family history plays a role. If your family has a history of heart disease, like mine, the dr.s will sometimes like to see total chol below 175. On "statins" (mine is Lipitor) mine is 166. Without it is 221. The males in my family all died of heart disease in their 40’s and early 50’s…..bummer. By the way…on Lipitor, my tri’s are 60. good luck, bc

Response:
IMHO, your numbers are ok. Not that you should go an a ham, egg and cheese diet or anything. With the side effects of anticholestrol drugs, docs don’t prescribe them unless your numbers are dangerously outside the top of the range. You might try more veggies, less red meat, more exercise. Don’t go overboard because your body does need some saturated fat and cholestrol to function. mike71646 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I had my blood examined for my cholesterol and did get the following results: Total cholesterol : 207 (has to be between 150 – 240) Triglyceride : 191 (has to be between 10 – 200) Who knows what this exactly means.
