Deaths from Pharmaceutical Drugs
Question:
I agree, although you have to be careful with what you read. I’ve seen many studies that are nothing more than a press release for some garbage that will not work and is potentially harmful. The key phrase you used is "careful study". Due diligence is ALWAYS important. It is an undeniable and unavoidable fact, and it is a sad fact. There is also a lot we can do about it. Knowing about, and using, self-reliant alternatives that have decades of careful study behind them is a good start.

You bet. Be on the lookout for conflicts of interest. Always ask, Who funded the work? A study supporting vitamin therapy (or other alt.med approaches) should provide references. Then, we need to check some of those references for ourselves. — Over 85 articles (and hundreds of scientific references) on nutritional therapeutics posted at http://doctoryourself.com (an HONcode site with no financial connection to the supplement industry); still more at http://www.rath.nl/sitemap/usa/main.htm http://www.orthomed.com http://www.orthomed.org http://pcrm.org http://www.pnc.com.au/~cafmr/ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I agree, although you have to be careful with what you read. $$$ And how many DIED because they took some alt. treatment instead of conventional treatment?
nowhere even close to those who died from adverse reaction to properly prescribed drugs.

let’s get down to business the subject. Let’s deal with the many deaths from drugs, $$$ Oh,.. like the 2 greedy, ignorant Herbalists who used my father as a guinea pig and money transfer system?
Carol I think it is time you got past your bitterness of your father’s death. It has been pointed out that he did NOTHING for too long. Perhaps nothing would have saved him?? You can’t let these things go. And you don’t KNOW what caused his death, yet you continue to blame the alt. methods he tried. He made his own choices and WAITED too long before he did ANYTHING. Like I have said previously, I doubt that he would be pleased with your bitterness. Time to move on. Or the colonic maniac quack who almost killed my friend Patty?
Patty than you did your father, we can’t trust your judgement. Yes, lets stick to the issues. Kali did. Duh. Jan

I doubt that it is as many as those who died or had their immune system greatly weakened from drugs. But you keep asking this question, so YOU must have the answer. Please post it for us. And what conditions would you recommend people take conventional treatment for instead of some herb or vitamin?
Too numerous to mention. The ulitmate goal is for conventional and alternative to work together. Why do you all refuse to answer this question?
We don’t have time to list them all, maybe you could do that for us. It is time to *just say no* to the latest pharmaceutical drug du jour. $$$ And say yes to QUACKERY and experimentation by herbalists, supplement sellers and other charlatans!!!
Quackery is in the mind of the beholder. The topic was the dangers of drugs. You seem to think this is NOT a fact. Educate yourself. Jan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Carol

Ridiculous perspective. As if doctors are the ones making people get diabetes or heart disease, get really old, and become far more susceptible to ADR’s. Now that we can get what that number really means – that is largely people who are on their last leg who are included in that number – let’s get down to business and talk about the real killer of our youth. So put aside your concerns about how drugs might be the biggest killer of young people. Forget guns and violence for now, friends. Let’s talk about suicide later. Let’s set aside the issues regarding unsafe sex or gangs for a moment. Do you know what the biggest killer of our youth REALLY is? It’s freakin’ CARS, my friend. Are you surprised? Some people are still shocked to learn that the leading cause of death for children and young adults in the US — between the ages of 6 and 27 — is motor vehicle crashes. More than 60% of US drivers report at least one occasion where unsafe driving by others, such as speeding, was a major personal threat to themselves and their families. More than half of drivers report seeing vehicles traveling at unsafe speeds all or most of the time. We’re all seeing too much speeding, tailgating, ignoring stop signs and unsafe lane changes — yet 66% of us admit occasionally speeding ourselves because we’re either late, or trying to keep up with traffic. Men and younger motorists are generally most likely to speed or drive unsafely. Most of us know the dangers of crazy driving and that there is too little police enforcement on our roads and highways. Though I am not much of a "government crackdown" advocate, I feel this is an area where we need to make an exception, since it puts all of our lives in jeopardy. I think we need to do whatever we can to bring about more aggressive law enforcement action to eradicate such behavior. This may be one area where improvements in "detect and apprehend" technology be would well worth socking some money into. But the problem is that we are wasting our money going after some of these lesser issues. Although safer roads and safer vehicles are an important part of prevention, we all know that human behavior plays a major role in crashes. Enforcement can be a great tool, but without public support, it can backfire. If I were a public official, knowing these facts would get me foaming at the mouth to do something. To reduce dangers on roads and highways, look to your own driving behavior. But we also need more help from law enforcement. You can’t control the traffic, only your reaction to it … if you see an aggressive driver, stop your vehicle and drop a dime, if possible. You could prevent a tragedy. It is time to *just say no* to the latest pharmaceutical drug du jour.
I can go along with that. There are some drugs like Ritalin and Prozac that are overprescribed, but your anti-doctor tone is misplaced. — Kali On Line; http://members.xoom.com/arniskali/
