13yr old exposed to DEET
Question:
Exposure to chemicals is a very common cause of chronic fatigue. Mine was caused by an anti-anxiety medication. You can get bogged down in the nuances of ATP energy production but the main issue is how to remove the toxin causing the problem from the body. Two things to consider: IV chelation (used in cases of lead poisoning and heart disease), IV Vit. C very helpful in detoxifying. A very helpful oral chelator is sodium alginate (from seaweed). I’ve tried to control my enthusiasm as best I can. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – A friend’s 13yr old son was on a fishing trip to Alaska several months ago. He used 100% DEET several times a day to ward off the mosquitoes. He developed most of the symptoms of chronic fatigue shortly thereafter. It appears that the exposure to DEET caused his illness. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to: 1) How DEET biochemically affects the body. 2) Any lab tests that could confirm this. 3) Any ways to safely clear any residual DEET out of his system. 4) How to support or repair whatever biochemical pathways were poisoned It appears that when he exercises, he is much worse (one of the CFS symptoms). Is it possible that the DEET has affected aerobic glycolosis, thereby causing his body to use anaerobic glycolysis to produce ATP upon exertion? If this were the case: 5) Any suggestions on any lab tests to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of his aerobic glycolysis pathway to produce ATP 6) Any suggestions on ways to improve his aerobic glycolysis pathway to produce ATP 7) Any ways to measure if his anaerobic pathway is running to excess causing a buildup of lactic acid? I know that posting here will lead to a barrage of posts of incredible cures that only coincidentally the authors have a financial interest in. Folks, try your best to control that enthusiasm and let those who have some knowledge about the above (ie. know what ATP is and how it is produced) come foreward and hopefully help this 13yr old boy. Thank you
